#JaneAustenJanuary Readathon 2021

It’s time to annouce the 3rd annual #JaneAustenJanuary Readathon! I hosted the first one in 2019, basically only through my bookstagram. I would love to have more people join in if they are able to do so 🙂

On to the details!

The Jane Austen January readathon runs from January 1st to January 31st and has 4 reading challenges. You can complete any or all of the challenges! It’s totally up to you if you read one book or 4 books or whatever number of books.

~️Read at least one Jane Austen novel

~I will be doing a buddy/group read of Emma starting on January 18th. We will be reading 8 chapters each day to complete the read in one week. I will be posting updates on my Instagram (and on my Twitter), and look forward to seeing yours!

~ Books that fit this challenge: The Clergyman’s Wife by Molly Greeley (follows Charlotte Lucas!), What Kitty Did Next by Carrie Kablean, The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow.

️~Read any Jane Austen adjacent book (could be a biography, a fictionalized account of her life, a book analyzing her books, any book that makes you think of Jane Austen or her books)

~Check out this instagram post for some suggestions

Feel free to watch an adaptation or listen to an audiobook version if you struggle with Austen’s writing (or just feel like it)!

If you know of any other books that fit the challenges, please leave a comment and I’ll try to check them out! You can also tag me or use #JaneAustenJanuary in your posts on twitter, instagram, or blogs! I would love to see what you are reading!

My Tentative TBR:

Emma by Jane Austen (excited for the group read!!)

The Code for Love and Heartbreak by Jillian Cantor (a contemporary YA Emma retelling!)

The Heiress: The Revelations of Anne de Bourgh by Molly Greeley (A huge thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for the eARC of this book! I think it’s going to be the first book I read in 2021 as it releases on January 5th!)

Jane Austen and Food by Maggie Lane (I have previously read Jane Austen and Names by this author and it was really fascinating. So I’m pretty stoked to get to this one.)

The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow

What Kitty Did Next by Carrie Kablean (If I can get my hands on a used copy. My library doesn’t have this one, but I really want to read it.)

Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur (I’ve heard that the retelling aspect is very subtle in this one, but that the story was pretty good. So I’m super intrigued!)

Wasted Words by Staci Hart (another Emma retelling!)

Here are a couple of other Austen inspired stories I’m super interested in, but will probably not be able to read this month (mostly due to the fact that these books aren’t out yet and I may not get approved for an ARC/ARCs may not be available yet):

Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price (a murder mystery retelling of Pride and Prejudice out on April 6th 2021!)

Incense and Sensibility by Sonali Dev (a Sense and Sensibility retelling that is part of Dev’s Rajes series, which are retellings of Austen novels following members of the same family. I have adored the first two books in this series, and truly can’t wait for this next installment! It will release on July 6th 2021!)

Where the Rhythm Takes You by Sarah Dass (a YA contemporary Persuasion retelling set in Tobago. Reyna is doing everything she can to keep her family’s resort from going under when Aiden’s sudden return after becoming a famous DJ/musician, with his group and his possible new girlfriend, leaves her faltering. This book sounds fantastic and the cover is absolutely stunning! This book is out on May 11th 2021!)
